This event was attended by 14 staff from the public audit offices of Chuuk, Kosrae, Pohnpei, Palau, Tuvalu, and Guam.

From March 13 – 17, 2023, the Guam Office of Public Accountability (OPA) and the Republic of the Marshall Islands (RMI) Office of the Auditor General conducted a peer review of the Federated States of Micronesia (FSM) Office of the National Public Auditor. Audit organizations are required by the Government Auditing Standards issued by the Comptroller General of the United States to undergo an independent external quality control review every three years.

Guam OPA Announces Appointment of Accountability Auditor III

The Office of Public Accountability is pleased to announce the appointment of Joy B. Esperanza as an Accountability Auditor III.  Joy proudly returns to the OPA after working over seven years at the Guam Department of Education as an Auditor II, Auditor III, and Auditor IV in the Internal Audit Section.  Previously, she served with the OPA for over four years as an Auditor I and Auditor II.

Guam’s Public Auditor Benjamin J. F. Cruz and Accountability Auditor III Jerrick Hernandez attended the 24th Pacific Association of Supreme Audit Institution’s Congress in Koror, Palau from February 28 to March 3, 2023.  The annual Congress was the first-in person meeting since the Covid-19 pandemic.

OPA Staff Attend Guam Professional Development Conference

Guam OPA Accountability Auditor Is Thomas Eladio Battung, Kayleen Concepcion, Mariella Cruz, Ren Jalandoni, and Selina Onedera-Salas attended the Guam Professional Development Conference from February 8-10, 2023 at the Westin Resort Guam.  The conference was hosted by the Association of Government Accountants Guam Chapter and it was the 12th Biennial Conference for the organization.  The conference theme was “Finance 3.0 Beyond Financial Management,” a wordplay on Web 3.0 as GPDC aimed to provide forward-looking sessions in financial management and other topics of interest.  Participants earned up to 24 continuing professional education credits at this training event.

Guam OPA Supervisor Attends Communications and Media Training

Supervising Accountability Auditor Vincent Duenas attended the Communications and Media Training Workshop in Nadi, Fiji on February 7-10, 2023. The workshop was attended by 24 participants from 16 countries and focused on strengthening audit offices’ capability to communication and engage effectively with the media and other key stakeholders. The workshop was sponsored by the Pacific Association of Supreme Audit Institutions and was the first in-person training since the global pandemic began in 2020.
